In the world of motorcycle enthusiasts, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a well-preserved classic bike. That’s exactly the experience Colin Ignacio shared with our Yamaha XS650 community when he found a local “creampuff”—a totally original 1981 XS650 Special II with an astonishingly low 4,200 miles.

Colin sent in three photos of his remarkable find, and while the images themselves may not capture every detail, the bike’s pristine condition speaks volumes. This XS650 Special II stands as a time capsule from an era when motorcycles were as much about style as they were about performance.

The first picture showcases the XS650 Special II in its untouched glory, a rare sight for a bike that’s over four decades old. It’s a testament to the timeless design and enduring build quality of Yamaha’s iconic XS series.

However, Colin isn’t content to let this bike remain a museum piece. He has ambitious plans to convert this classic into a tracker/scrambler, giving it a new lease on life and a fresh identity. This style of build is renowned for its versatility, combining the flat-track racing aesthetic with the ruggedness of a scrambler.

In the second photo, we get a glimpse of the potential that lies within this 1981 XS650 Special II. The transformation will likely include a host of modifications: a suspension lift for increased ground clearance, aggressive tires suited for both pavement and dirt, and a custom exhaust system to let the bike’s twin engine sing a more aggressive tune.

The final photo Colin shared provides another look. It’s the beginning of a journey that will see the XS650 Special II morph from a showroom classic to a machine that’s ready to tackle both city streets and backcountry trails with equal aplomb.

We’re eager to see Colin’s vision come to life as he reimagines this 1981 XS650 Special II. His project is a celebration of the motorcycle’s heritage and a nod to the modern custom bike culture. It’s projects like these that keep the spirit of the XS650 alive and kicking, inspiring both new and seasoned riders alike.
