Brett Ohland – I pieced together a 1976 xs 650, i wanted to do a 50s style with 70s paint. The frame i made my own hardtail with a 2″ stretch. Rear fender and oil tank i made out of 18gauge sheet metal, retunneled an original wassell tank, xs1 drum front hub laced to a 16″ rear rim and spokes on shinko 500-16 tires.
It has a dna 2 under springer, hand made 1.5” exhaust, the headlight i found at a junkyard and painted the lens in a gold candy for the vintage yellow look, i made many other components such as the battery box, license plate bracket, headlight mount, bar mounts, seatpan. i rebuilt the engine to stock specs, some head porting, stock points ignition and recharging system. the paint i did myself starting with a gold glitter with a silver base, root beer brown candy, and about 18hrs in airbrushing. many new components such as cables, tires, brakes, clutch, full engine rebuild (engine powder coated gloss black polished covers) i built this bike on a $2000 budget and from fabrication to assymbly was 1 month.
