This is a 1980 XS650 that I acquired just recently. I cannot take credit for this super sweet build. I ran across it advertised on Craigslist and and knew it was destined for me to be the final owner of this work of art. I was 18 years old when I bought my first street bike (rode dirt from the age of 7) after I got to my first duty station at Homestead AFB,FL in 1979.
I had always wanted to be an aircraft mechanic (crew chief) on fighter aircraft (F-4s and F-111s) and that’s what I did for 10 1/2 years. Over the years afterward I’ve owned and built all brands and kinds of motorcycles but I have always wanted to custom build an XS650.
Two weeks ago I bought a 1972 XS650 bobber project to finish. A week later I saw this one on Craigslist and didn’t hesitate to purchase it. The craftsmanship and design are amazing. It rides amazingly smooth. Better than most of my swing arm bikes. Someone put a lot of thought and hard work into this amazing ride.
I don’t know the history of this work of art but I would love to know what it is. I’m sure it was built by or for a veteran. The only thing I know about it is that it was painted by someone named Richardson.
I know this because it was signed and has a phone number on it. I have tried calling the number and left messages but have not had any replies.
The area code was 724 which is western and southwestern PA. If anyone has any knowledge of this bike any information would be greatly appreciated.
