One of our valued community members, Pete Escott, recently shared his incredible journey of building a 1972 Yamaha TX650, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking. In November 2022, Pete got his hands on this beauty, which was imported from the USA to England in a fairly original state. Little did the bike know, it was about to undergo a remarkable transformation.

As Pete mentions, “This was my first go at building a motorbike, and only my second motorbike I’ve owned.” Despite being relatively new to the world of motorcycle customization, Pete fearlessly took on the challenge. He completely stripped the bike down and went to work, showcasing his natural talent and eye for detail.

The frame received a sleek makeover, with Pete de-tabbing it and cutting down the rear loop before having it powder-coated in a sophisticated dark grey. The tank, a focal point of any motorcycle, was stripped and painted in a stunning Porsche oak green metallic, adding a touch of elegance to the build.

Pete’s craftsmanship shines through in the custom pie-cut stainless headers and Triumph cans, which he welded himself. The motor, too, received plenty of attention, with Pete painting and polishing it to perfection. To modernize the bike, he installed a complete new wiring loom, featuring a micro battery cleverly tucked under the seat and all-LED lights.

Other notable modifications include the removal of the starter motor, the addition of an electronic ignition with PMA, slide carbs, lowered suspension and bars, and a custom aluminum seat base. The only task Pete outsourced was the seat cover, but everything else bears his handiwork.

When asked about the style of his build, Pete humbly states, “Not a chopper, more a brat style, but hopefully you can still appreciate her.” And appreciate her, we do! The photos Pete shared showcase the TX650 from various angles, highlighting the stunning lines, flawless paintwork, and overall cohesiveness of the build.
