The Yamaha XS650 is a canvas for motorcycle enthusiasts, a foundation upon which countless custom bikes have been built. Today, we’re excited to share a bike from our community member, Craig Squillante, who has turned his 1983 XS650 into a stunning bobber over the course of six months.

Craig’s first foray into the world of bobber builds began with a vision and a classic XS650. With its potent combination of a robust, reliable engine and a frame that lends itself to customization, the XS650 is a favorite among builders. But even with such a promising start, transforming a stock bike into a personalized bobber is no small feat.

Craig’s journey started with the disassembly of the stock bike. He sent us a series of 20 pictures that showcase his final transformation.

One of the most captivating aspects of Craig’s build is the attention to detail. Every component was chosen with care to create a cohesive, streamlined look that’s characteristic of a bobber. The minimalist approach strips away the non-essentials, focusing on the raw beauty of the machine.

The heart of the bike, its engine, was refreshed and remains the centerpiece of the build. Craig’s bobber retains the soulful character of the XS650 while expressing his personal style. The customizations are not just about aesthetics; they’re a reflection of Craig’s journey as a builder and an enthusiast.

After six months of hard work, the transformation was complete. The final photos Craig shared with us reveal a motorcycle that’s both classic and contemporary. The bobber is a blast to ride, as Craig tells us, and it’s easy to see why. The stripped-down style and custom touches make for a unique riding experience that’s as much about the connection between rider and road as it is about the bike itself.

Craig’s experience with building his first bobber was more than just a project; it was a journey filled with challenges, learning, and ultimately, a lot of fun. “What a blast,” he says of the process, and that joy is evident in the final product.
