Peter Strignelius recently shared an outstanding example of this beloved model, transformed into a stunning blue Swedish chopper. This particular build is not just a testament to craftsmanship but also a labor of love, created for a very special purpose.
The story begins with a father’s dedication to creating something unique for his daughter. The bike, originally an 80’s style Swedish chopper, was in dire need of attention. “We bought an 80’s style Swedish chopper but it was in a mess so I decided to rebuild the motor,” he shared. This initial step soon evolved into a full-scale project that would see the entire bike reborn.
The builder took it upon himself to handle every aspect of the restoration. “I did all the welding, paintwork, and engine work myself,” he said. This hands-on approach is evident in the meticulous attention to detail seen in every angle of the bike. The engine, sourced from a 1971 Yamaha XS650, retains its original specifications, ensuring that the heart of the bike beats with authentic vintage power.
The frame and forks, originally crafted by the Swedish chopper company Trike&Chopper in the 80s, were also given new life. “Full rebuild. I couldn’t put a new engine in that old chassis,” he explained. This comprehensive overhaul included new tires, cables, bushings, brake shoes, and bearings, making the bike as reliable as it is beautiful.
A striking feature of this chopper is its vibrant blue paintwork. The builder’s skill is on full display here, with a flawless finish that catches the eye. Complementing the paint is a seat that combines practicality with style. “I did the seat bottom but a car upholstery guy made the cover,” he mentioned, highlighting the collaborative effort involved in the project.
Chrome accents, expertly done by a local firm, add a touch of elegance to the bike, contrasting beautifully with the blue bodywork. The bike runs with Boyer Brandsen ignition, ensuring smooth and efficient performance.
This chopper has not only been a personal project but has also garnered public attention. “We entered it at a car show and get a lot of attention at the biker meetings,” he shared. The bike stands as a perfect representation of the 80s pre-Harley Swedish chopper scene, a tribute to a bygone era that continues to inspire.
This Yamaha XS650 Swedish chopper is more than just a motorcycle; it’s a piece of art, a slice of history, and a symbol of a father’s love and dedication. Each ride on this beautifully restored bike is a journey through time, a celebration of craftsmanship, and a reminder of the enduring appeal of classic motorcycles.
