In the realm of custom motorcycle builds, few projects capture the essence of nostalgia and craftsmanship like this 1978 Yamaha XS650, recently shared with our community.
Meticulously restored and customized by LD Motor 22 in Ligny, Belgium, this bike is a testament to both the owner’s passion and the builder’s expertise.
The story of this particular 1978 Yamaha XS650 is as captivating as the bike itself. Vince, the owner, who had a deep-seated passion for the XS650 since his youth, expressed a desire to relive those memories with one final, perfect motorcycle.
“I had the chance to own an XS650 when I was young, and I wanted one as my last bike!” he shared.
This sentiment drove him to acquire a neglected XS650 in 2023, a bike that had been relegated to mere decoration in a living room for years.
Upon purchasing the bike, it became evident that this XS650 was more of a showpiece than a roadworthy machine.
“It was created to pose in magazines and not to ride!” he explained.
However, with the expert craftsmanship of LD Motor 22, this dormant beauty was transformed into a road-ready marvel.
The technical specifications of this build are nothing short of impressive.
The bike now boasts an electronic ignition, ensuring reliable starts and smooth performance.
The heart of the machine has been upgraded with a big bore kit, increasing the displacement to a formidable 750cc.
This enhancement, coupled with Keihin carburetors, delivers a significant boost in power and throttle response.
Braking performance has also been given a substantial upgrade with a Performance Machine 4-piston rear brake, providing exceptional stopping power. The ride comfort and aesthetics have not been overlooked either; a Biltwell seat offers a blend of style and comfort, while the radical custom metal flake paint job by Custom Z turns heads wherever the bike goes.
Further enhancing the bike’s functionality and style are TC Bros forward controls and forks, which add a modern touch to this classic machine.
Staying true to the old-school charm, the bike retains a kick start only mechanism, a nod to its vintage roots.
This remarkable build is a testament to the dedication and skill of LD Motor 22, as well as the owner’s unwavering passion for the Yamaha XS650. Now, with the bike fully restored and road-ready, the owner plans to embark on an epic journey across Europe.
“I plan to travel with it across Europe now,” he proudly declared.
In the world of custom motorcycles, stories like this remind us of the deep connections we form with our machines.
This 1978 Yamaha XS650 is not just a bike; it’s a symbol of nostalgia, craftsmanship, and the unyielding spirit of adventure.
Made in Belgium, and ready to conquer the roads of Europe, this XS650 is a true masterpiece reborn.
