I got tired of looking for a good diagram for the Yamaha xs650 that wasn’t completely wrong….so i made one. Simple, easy to read and to the point. Hope it came out as clear as it looks to me.
A couple of key notes: The brush assembly of the stator must be ungrounded. This means taking the 3 screws attaching the brushes to the outside of the stator and replacing with 4MMx.1 nylon screws 11MM long, no plastic. I couldn’t find any in town so I got some 8MM nylon round stock, ground it down and used a die for the threads.
You can find them at smallparts.com Just search 4MM nylon screw. Note #2 if your backfiring through your carbs, switch the orange and grey wires coming off the points. The orientation of the wire colors depends on the last person to change the points.
