I ended up getting a ton of Harley Deuce parts for free from a guy
Write about your XS650.: Here are some pictures of my XS650 chopper that I’m building which I’ve named Project: Yama Choppa. I bought it as a basket case for $300 with the intent of putting together a cheap bobber or chopper. I had originally started to build it as an old school style bobber. I chopped the stock frame and put on a TC Bros hard tail section. I had done a rough mock up of it with a HD style rear fender, Le Pera solo seat and bitch pad, sporty peanut tank and front fender, stock xs front end and wheels. A few months later I ended up getting a ton of Harley Deuce parts for free from a guy off of Craigslist including wheels, seat, oil bag and all kinds of other parts so decided to use the wheels and some of the other parts for my bike. Shortly after that, I got busy with work and didn’t have much time to work on the bike so it sat untouched. In that time I browsed many other XS builds and came across a few really nice choppers that I thought were sharp so began to lean more towards the chopper look. Then I ended up getting a great deal on a new 12″ over front end off of ebay for $260 so I decided to build a chopper instead of the bobber. One of the choppers I really dug was Malidrags chopper so I contacted Tigman who built his frame to have him build one similar for me. So, my old hardtailed stocker frame is for sale if anybody’s interested.
I received my frame from Tigman yesterday and it looks great. He does great quality work and the welds are very clean. He did screw up on a few things like building the frame with a drop seat and making it with a single down tube instead of duals but I liked the way it looked and he did a few extras for me like a fake oil bag so it’s all good. I came straight home from work and was out in the garage until midnight working on the bike. So here are some pics I took of it today.
I still have a lot of work to do on it but I think it’s looking pretty damned cool already. Some of the future mods I’m planning on are a big bore kit, possibly rephasing the engine, new carbs, converting the stator to permanent magnet type, big chrome air horn, side plate, fish tail pipes with flame throwers, La Rosa leather solo seat with cantilever arms and mini shocks, fake oil bag/electric box/storage and digital speedo.
Well, that’s about it for now. I’ll send updates and pics as work progresses.
Any comments or suggestions are welcomed.
