Justin Juencke – I bought this 1981 XS650 about 7 months ago. The rigid frame conversion had already been done. When I got it home I went through all of the wiring and converted it to an electronic ignition. Then I took for a couple rides and noticed that the fuel tank had started to leak. So I went on Lowbrowcutoms and found the P-nut tank and a nice Bates Style rear fender.
I mounted the new tank and fender then sent them out to get painted at California Cycle Design. In order to mount the fender the way I liked, it required shorting of the battery box. While the parts were being painted I decided to go with 35mm clip-ons from Woocraft to give it more of a cafe style look to it.
I recently just took it for a ride from Long Beach, CA. up through Malibu and around the L.A. area, It was about 200 miles round trip. I am really happy with the look of this bike now and hope to go on more rides. We are planning a ride up the coast to San Francisco soon.
