This 1978 Yamaha XS650 hardtail, cloaked in a menacing black, stands as a testament to the artistry involved in custom bike building. The journey of this machine began in Jacksonville, FL, where a group of passionate builders at Grave Robber Customs laid the foundation for what would become a rolling masterpiece.

“I got this bike from some awesome guys down in Jax, FL. They set me up with exactly what I wanted,” says Joey the proud owner shared. His words echo the satisfaction of a rider who found a perfect match in both machine and craftsmanship.

The heart of this build lies in its frame—an entirely custom-made hardtail. Unlike many builds that rely on bolt-on or weld-on kits sourced from the internet, this frame was crafted with precision and care, right in a backyard garage. “The frame is custom made, no bolt-on, weld-on internet stuff. All bent and welded in a garage in the backyard,” the owner explained, underscoring the authenticity and hands-on approach that defines this build.

From the first glance, the bike’s aggressive stance is unmistakable. The black paint envelops the XS650 in a shroud of mystery and power, while the hardtail frame gives it a sleek, elongated silhouette. Each angle of the bike, captured in the photos, reveals the meticulous attention to detail that went into its creation.

The engine, a hallmark of the XS650 lineage, sits as the beating heart of this beast. Its robust performance is complemented by a custom exhaust system that promises a symphony of throaty growls and roaring power. The minimalist design, stripped of any superfluous elements, ensures that the bike’s raw beauty and mechanical prowess take center stage.

Adding personal touches to an already exceptional build, the owner has imbued the bike with his unique vision. These modifications not only enhance the bike’s performance but also reflect the rider’s personality and style. It’s a harmonious blend of form and function, where every component serves a purpose and tells a story.
