Starting at the front are forks from an XV820? It was the chain drive Virago. With them came the dual brakes and an electronic tach. Braided stainless brake lines help to firm up the grip. Headlight bucket is from a midnight Virago750. I found the front fender in the woods out back of Nick’s Cycle Salvage. No charge. Back in the ’70s I used to do all Nick’s painting for him and we would wrench on all makes from all countries including Japan. Then one day he got a bug up his ass and went no more Triumphs, BSAs, Nortons, I think BMW would have made the cut but nobody new what to do with them, Then he looks at me and says “and yours is the only Jap bike allowed in my shop”. It’s all different now though. Any body on anything is welcome. Golf carts, scooters, you ride you’re in the club. Continue Reading →
Kirkland – My buddies and I started out with a bone stock 81 650 Special, which was our first ground up build. The beginning idea was just to slap on a hardtail and keep the front stock, but that quickly deteriorated as did my bank account. The tail is from TC Bros, as are the handlebars and forward controls. John david scott – I found this bike from a friend who didn’t even know what kind of bike it was. it had been buried in the shed for 32 years.he bought it new in 1981 and put ten thousand miles on it and stuck it in the barn. he gave it to me and I brought her home and I didn’t know what I had until I started looking online. I put 100 miles on her before I started taking her apart and cutting her up. the project isn’t done yet but I’ve added a TC brothers hardtail. Tc bros. Tail amp Model A, TC brothers forward controls I made my own blacksmith Billy clutch, for my foot, TC brothers wassel peanut tank. plus a lot of engine parts from Mikes XS. I will send more pics when the bike is done. I’m adding a couple of really unusual suprises to finish it off.
Mark Newton – 3 years of casually chipping away at this bad boy and I finally can say she’s a solid runner. TC Bros hard tail, Ebay sporty mid tunnel tank, Avon rubber front and back, random Harley headlight, Built and wrapped the pipes from a TC Bros pipe kit, Front Street Cycles T-bars, Chinese seat, eBay signals, random front fender repurposed on the rear, fabricated the electronics box which houses my coils, signal relay, key/kill switch and fuses. Brett “BrettMan” Williams – My brother and I built this over the last couple months. We used it as an excuse to drink a ton of beer and smoke cigarettes in my garage with our shop dog “Twister.”
We had been wanting to build a motorcycle together ever since he moved to town a year and a half ago. An XS seemed like an obvious choice since they lend so well to it. But, we wanted to do something cooler than the standard bolt-on hardtails that are running around everywhere. While looking for a base bike I found an old project on Craigslist. I bought the frame and motor off some guy who started building it 10 years ago and never finished. I paid too much for what I got but I have an affiinity for building things that, without my help, would eventually become trash. Continue Reading →
