Old dirty bastard

This rusty heap is the best 1100 bucks I have ever spent.

Write about your XS650.:  First off let me pay respect to Grave Robber Customs.  With out Frank I would not have gotten this thing together.  This is a 79xs special.  I bought it in deltona for 600 bucks.  This is my first bike so I just figured that if it ran all was well.  Nope.  I bought an AMC voltage regulater and used Pamco Pete’s 6dollar rectifier.  New alt/stater.

Hand built battery box, and seatpan.  I also built my own forward controls and wiring harness.  I also bought and LED 31 ford tailight and hand built the bracket for it and the plate.  I have both front and back discs. This thing is grimey, loud and perfect.  Haven’t decided on paint or not.

I kinda like the patina.  This rusty heap is the best 1100 bucks I have ever spent. Every shiny harley rider where I work hates me.

Old dirty bastard

The rust adds character haha, like the bike bro.

  2. Tebo says:

No wonder they hate you. Those things are everywhere. Everything out there now is either a harley, a crotch rocket, or something that looks like a harley. We’ve got “NOT HARLEYs”. Shiny or rusty (ours), Xs650s are the envy of the motorcycle world. Ride long and hard.

  3. Rusty Nutz says:

    As they should be built.

  4. Youve got the chance to do quite a project with this…then see if your workmates hate you..

  5. andimus maximus says:

Shweet bike son you should black it out maybe, but i love the rims and back tail light great first step

  6. John Walker says:

Thanks for all the love fellas I know this site is known for weeding out the posers and the loser builds. Any body got any thoughts about mods

  7. Teebs says:

Brother, I wouldn’t f*ck with it. Let her rust, or lay some flat clear down. It has character in spades as it sits, and you have it all together and running.

Besides, she has that sweet blingy fender, she doesn’t need paint.

    Nice scoot.

  8. BillyBobba says:

    Nice and grungy mate.

  9. John Walker says:

    THanks Teebs.

  10. CLIFTON says:

    DO NOT PAINT!!!!!

  11. Tebo says:

I agree with Teebs and Clifton. “Run what ya brung”.

  12. Kyle says:

Ditto, it’s bad ass as is.

  13. hott scott says:

the bike looks dirty and bad ass with the rust. telling the hd’s and crotch rockets, don’t f*#k with me!

  14. Dave says:

That is absolutely fantastic…that will be the bike I think of when I start my build….just awesome.

  15. Carlos says:

Nice bike. How much stretch have you put into it?

  16. Brad Hindle says:

What Carlos said! Looks like about 6 inches?

  17. Mark Alli says:

What rear was welded on the xs?

  18. Gerry says:

When a HD rider turns their nose up ya know you got it right. Screw the bastards, buncha fringe wearing painted ladies anyhow.

  20. Brian says:

Don’t ever paint it. This is one of the bikes that makes me want to build one.. It’s flawed perfection!

  21. Patrix says:

I love the look of that “dirty old bastard”…it’s what I shoot for myself. Thanks for posting it!

  22. tom says:

i love upside down-backwards handlebars. cheapest way to look mean. did the same thing to my buddies 78 kawi 440ltd

  23. El Gaucho says:

Love the way the front end looks with that headlight and bar combo. I love it as is with ONE exception. You need to remount that rear fender with less gap so it doesn’t look like an afterthought. that would bring it all together perfectly.

  24. daisy (my dog's name) says:

What a fun bike to look at. I “kinda like the patina” too. You can’t buy patina. Don’t you dare paint her, John. She’s a beaut. Those guys at work don’t hate you, John. They envy you, dude.

  25. freeterri says:

    Totally perfect bike!!
